the lavender fairy is one of my favourites! i have a months of the year flower fairies diorama above my bed and she is the fairy for my birth month. next time you walk past some lavender, try running your hands through it for the scent :3.
these fairies, first created by cicely mary barker in 1923, were hand drawn and are botanically accurate as well as having pre-raphaelite inspirations. Originally, they were all accompanied by poems, referring to the flower which is depicted.
the images appeal to an innate sense of wonder and magic, as well as representing the fairy-mania that was present in britain for a time, although the illustrations are now shown at exhibitions across the globe!
